CDH HISTORY
It was 1930 and Dr. & Mrs. Broadbridge made the decision to create a camp for boys among the woods and natural wonders of Northern Wisconsin. With seven thousand lakes surrounding deep forest, a perfect summer climate, warm days and cool nights, and the purest air imaginable they started to build Camp Deerhorn.

CDH PHILOSOPHY
Having fun, learning to get along with others, improvement in many lifelong sports, appreciating the natural surroundings, and personal growth are just some of the things that we are all about at Camp Deerhorn.

There are several key factors that have contributed to the success of Camp Deerhorn. Foremost is the very structure which was built into camp long ago by Dr. Don and Mrs. Kathryn Broadbridge. While new activities have been added to the program, a very basic schedule and lifestyle is followed to the enjoyment of all. Campers, counselors, and administrators are all part of a unique social interaction amongst many ages. Everyone is engaged in the daily practice of the Deerhorn Creed. It was written by the wise founder, Dr. Don.

Another important factor is the careful selection of staff members for each season to ensure an atmosphere of friendship, positive reinforcement, enthusiasm, and learning for our campers. This, coupled with a complete understanding of how precious our campers truly are, and with many long-standing traditions thrown into the mix, creates a unique recipe for fun and development. There is an intangible spirit of Camp Deerhorn that burns stronger in some than others, but is present in all of our campers. We are as proud of a new camper smiling with wide-eyed excitement during his first season as we are of a young man we have watched grow for many summers who then returns as a counselor.

A final major contributer to our continued success is an incredibly large and strong alumni following. Our friends are scattered far and wide. We have visitors from many decades of camp, each with interesting stories to tell.

CAMP DEERHORN CREED

  • To enjoy the Great Outdoors as one of the gifts of life
  • To greet the dawn with a smile and the mess call with a laugh
  • To spread sunshine and good cheer, just for the fun of it
  • To play every game on the level, win modestly, lose gracefully, and have a kind word for the opposing side
  • To speak the truth and to think the truth
  • To cooperate with other campers and find pleasure in lending a helping hand
  • To try to see the other fellow's side of the question and strive for harmony
  • To be kind, because manliness requires kindness
  • To be strong, because self-reliance is born of strength
  • To be careful, because recklessness is the admission of unwise judgement
  • To be too generous to bear a grudge and too good natured to pick flaws in others
  • To aim for self improvement
  • To be a "regular fellow," a pal to other campers, a friend in manner and deed, a booster rather than a knocker, an optimist rather than a pessimist, and a gentleman under all conditions and circumstances
